Die Agri Securitas Trustfonds het vandag tydens die Agri SA-kongres sy dank uitgespreek teenoor Corteva Agriscience, Sanlam en NWK Beperk vir die skenking van R1,1 miljoen aan die fonds. Hierdie ruim skenking dien as ‘n broodnodige bydrae tot die Trustfonds se werk ter ondersteuning van boerderygemeenskappe in hul pogings om hulself teen plaasaanvalle en misdadigheid in die algemeen te beskerm.
“Boere wêreldwyd is uitgelewer aan misdaad, maar in Suid-Afrika ervaar boere ook wreedaardige plaasaanvalle, ‘n verskynsel eie aan ons omgewing wat ons land se toekomstige voedselsekerheid ondermyn. Die kwesbaarheid van boerdery en landelike gemeenskappe is dus nie slegs ‘n boere-aangeleentheid nie maar wel ‘n gemeenskapskwessie en van nasionale belang. Dit is bemoedigend om te sien dat die korporatiewe wêreld proaktief stappe neem om die sektor te help om boerderygemeenskappe te beveilig,” sê Cobus van Zyl, voorsitter van die Agri Securitas Trustfonds.
Die befondsing sal aangewend word om die installering van kamerastelsels, duur tegnologie, wat as suksesvol bewys is in die monitering van groot gebiede uit te brei met die oog op die monitering van kriminaliteit en die identifisering van veldbrande voordat hulle versprei.
Vandag se skenking beklemtoon die sterk vennootskappe wat bestaan tussen die landbousektor en die korporatiewe wêreld. Dit bou voort op die ruim donasies deur ander korporatiewe vennote, insluitend Nissan SA, wat die Trustfonds se visie om boerderygemeenskappe te beskerm ondersteun en miljoene rande oor die afgelope 21 jaar vir daardie doel geskenk het.
“Die Trustfonds is gestig deur Agri SA in Oktober 1998 as ‘n inisiatief van die voormalige president Nelson Mandela na afloop van ‘n spesiale beraad oor landelike veiligheid. Sedert 2017, het die Trustfonds reeds hulp gebied aan meer as 122 landelike veiligheidsprojekte om die lewens, veiligheid en lewensbestaan van bykans 8 800 boere en 183 000 plaaswerkers en hul afhanklikes te verbeter, sê van Zyl.
“Corteva AgriscienceTM is aktief op grondvlak en werk innoverend saam met boere om hulle te help om suksesvol te boer. Ons streef daarna om die mees betroubare vennoot in die globale landbou- en voedselgemeenskap te wees. Ons samewerking met die Agri Securitas Trustfonds demonstreer ons verbintenis tot landelike veiligheid en die sukses van landbou in Suid-Afrika,” sê Tony Esmeraldo, HUB van Corteva Agrisience.
Karl Socikwa, Groep-hoofbestuurder: Markontwikkeling en Volhoubaarheid by Sanlam sê, “Ons weet hoe katastrofies dit vir ons land, die ekonomie en gemeenskappe sal wees as die landbousektor nie in staat is om aan ons langdurige voedselsekerheid te bied nie. As deel van ons lang verhouding met die Trustfonds, sal ons voortgaan om hulle te ondersteun in hul uitsonderlike pogings om die sekuriteit van kwesbare landelike gebiede te verbeter. Ons doel as ‘n besigheid is om geslagte boere te bemagtig om finansieel onafhanklik, veilig en vooruitstrewend te wees en ons hoop dat die inisiatief ‘n impak sal hê op boerderygemeenskappe in hierdie gebied”.
“NWK, die oudste landboumaatskappy, was in 1909 gestig deur boere vir boere. Vir NWK is dit van uiterste belang dat daar na die veiligheid van produsente, hul gesinne en plaaswerkers omgesien word, die land se voedselsekerheid hang daarvan af. Hierdie bydrae tot die Agri Securitas Trustfonds is dus vir ons ‘n saak van nasionale belang vir alle Suid-Afrikaners,” sê Johan Bezuidenhout, Groep Korporatiewe Bemarking en Kommunikasie by NWK beperk.
“Die Trustfonds is dankbaar vir hierdie skenkings, hierdie maatskappye moet ondersteun word en erkenning kry vir hulle bydraes tot die Trustfonds ten einde ‘n veilige en vooruitstrewende boerderygemeenskap te verseker”, aldus van Zyl.

Agri Securitas Trust Fund is grateful to announce a donation of R1,1 million made to the Trust Fund by Corteva Agriscience, Sanlam and NWK limited at the Agri SA 2022 congress today. The generous donation is a vital contribution to the Trust’s work of supporting farming communities in their endeavours to protect themselves against farm attacks and general criminality.
“Farmers worldwide are vulnerable to crime. But in South Africa, the farming community must also contend with brutal farm attacks, a phenomenon peculiar to our environment, compromising the country’s future food security. The vulnerability of farming and rural communities is therefore not only a farmers’ issue but a community issue and a national imperative, and we are encouraged to see the corporate world taking proactive steps to assist the sector in keeping farming communities safe,” said Cobus van Zyl, chairperson of the Agri Securitas Trust Fund.
The funding will be used to expand the installation of camera systems, expensive technology that has proven to be successful in monitoring vast areas for criminality, and detecting veldfires before they can spread.
Today’s donation underscores the strong partnerships forged between the agricultural sector and corporate world. It builds on the generous donations from other corporate partners including Nissan SA, supporting the vision of the trust fund to protect the farming community and have donated millions of rands over the past 21 years.
The Trust Fund was founded by Agri SA in October 1998 as an initiative started by the late President Mandela after a special summit dealing with rural safety. Since 2017 the trust fund has supported more than 122 rural safety projects improving the safety, lives, and livelihoods of almost 8 800 farmers and 183 000 farmworkers and their dependents” says van Zyl.
