Kwanalu: Water Use Registration (DWS)
DWS Notice for registration of all water use by 23 July 2026.
(i) Government Notice No. 7408 of 24 April 2026, calling on all unregistered water users to register their water use;
(ii) an information leaflet issued by the DWS on the registration of water uses; and
(iii) a Notice Link document containing electronic links to the relevant registration forms and resources on the DWS website https://www.dws.gov.za/Projects/WARMS/Notices.aspx
Members should take note of the following important exemptions and obligations:
- Schedule 1 water users, as well as water users who fall within the area of operation of a water user association, are exempt from the requirement to register their water uses.
- However, where a water user utilises a borehole for commercial purposes, registration of that borehole remains mandatory, regardless of any exemption that may otherwise apply.
The registration period is valid for 90 days, unregistered water users have until 23 July 2026 to register their water uses.
All affected members must not delay, as this deadline is fixed. Failure to register timeously may expose members to significant legal and operational risk.
