Kwanalu CEO, Sandy La Marque, has confirmed that following investigations the incident which took place on 16 July, near Bergville in KZN, in which an 80 year old man was allegedly shot dead by police, did not take place on a farm, nor was the perpetrator a farmer.
Following the incorrect reporting of the incident in the media, La Marque has liaised with SAPS and has corroborated the following facts:
- An owner of a goat herd, who was on the elderly man’s property collecting his goats, on the outskirts of the town was allegedly shot and is currently in hospital
- SAPS attended to the scene upon which the 80 year old man was allegedly shot by SAPS
La Marque has called on SAPS to ensure accurate information is released when handling situations in rural areas and has called on the media to verify facts and be mindful of accurate information before reporting incidents.
