AgriSA would like to reaffirm its commitment to private property rights and reiterate that it will employ all necessary resources to defend property rights and uphold the principles that support our farmers and the agricultural community at large.
“Private property rights are the primary basis on which South African agriculture is structured. Over the past few years, agriculture’s debt to GDP ratio is average around 50%, highlighting the importance of land as collateral in the financing of production. Consequently, any risk to upholding these fundamental rights holds grave implications for agricultural sustainability and food security. Therefore, AgriSA is committed to defending property values and rights and will utilize all necessary resources in consultation with legal experts to uphold these principles, says Johann Kotzé, Agri SA CEO.
“Agri SA has a long history of advocating for private property rights and its expansion to all new entrants. We call on government to urgently transfer the 2.5 million hectares of land it bought for redistribution purposes to further agricultural development and demonstrate its commitment to meaningful economic development.
Previously AgiSA commissioned an independent investigation into the macroeconomic impact assessment of a policy of land expropriation without compensation in South Africa.
“The GOPA Group South Africa (Pty) Ltd’s assessment reiterated AgriSA’s long-held conviction that fostering capital formation is interlinked with private property rights and is subsequently a crucial prerequisite for economic development, job creation, and growth,” says Kotzé.
“While supporting the need for transformation and land reform in the agricultural sector, AgriSA emphasizes that it must not come at the expense of the economy and investor confidence, added Kotzé.

AgriSA herbevestig sy verbintenis tot private eiendomsregte en herhaal dat hy alle nodige hulpbronne sal aanwend om eiendomsregte te verdedig en die beginsels handhaaf wat ons boere en die landbougemeenskap in die algemeen ondersteun.
“Privaat eiendomsregte is die primêre basis waarop die Suid-Afrikaanse landbou gestruktureer is. Oor die afgelope paar jaar is landbouskuld-tot-BBP-verhouding gemiddeld ongeveer 50%, wat die belangrikheid van grond as kollateraal in die finansiering van produksie beklemtoon. Gevolglik hou enige risiko vir die handhawing van hierdie fundamentele regte ernstige implikasies in vir landbouvolhoubaarheid en voedselsekerheid. Daarom is AgriSA daartoe verbind om eiendomswaardes en -regte te verdedig en sal alle nodige hulpbronne in oorleg met regskundiges aanwend om hierdie beginsels te handhaaf,” sê Johann Kotzé, hoof- uitvoerende beampte van Agri SA.
“AgriSA het ‘n lang geskiedenis van voorspraak vir private eiendomsregte en die uitbreiding daarvan na alle nuwe toetreders. Ons doen ‘n beroep op die regering om die 2,5 miljoen grond wat dit vir herverdelingsdoeleindes gekoop het, dringend oor te dra vir verdere landbou-ontwikkeling en sy verbintenis tot betekenisvolle ekonomiese ontwikkeling te demonstreer.
Voorheen het AgriSA ‘n onafhanklike ondersoek aangevra na die makro-ekonomiese impakstudie van ‘n beleid van grondonteiening sonder vergoeding in Suid-Afrika.
“Die GOPA Groep Suid-Afrika (Edms) Bpk se assessering het AgriSA se oortuiging ondersteun dat die bevordering van kapitaalvorming verweef is met private eiendomsregte en gevolglik ‘n belangrike voorvereiste vir ekonomiese ontwikkeling, werkskepping en groei is,” sê Kotzé.
“Terwyl AgriSA die behoefte aan transformasie en grondhervorming in die landbousektor ondersteun, beklemtoon ons dat dit nie ten koste van die ekonomie en beleggersvertroue moet gaan nie,” het Kotzé bygevoeg.
Die organisasie bly verbind tot die beskerming van private eiendomsregte en die bevordering van die groei en stabiliteit van Suid-Afrika se landbousektor terwyl voedselsekerheid vir almal verseker word.
