As South Africans celebrate Mandela Day on Monday, 18 July 2022, Agri SA and OneFarm Share are pleased to announce a partnership to help assist South Africans vulnerable to food insecurity. Through this partnership, Agri SA will help OneFarm Share to reach their target of distributing more than 40 million meals to 1.2 million South Africans in 2022.

OneFarm Share was created by Standard Bank in partnership with Agri-FinTech HelloChoice as a response to pervasive food insecurity and the excess fresh produce that resulted from the pandemic. It is a hunger relief and food security platform that digitally matches farmers’ excess produce to registered beneficiary organisations via key distribution partners such as FoodForward SA and SA Harvest. Together, they provide an easy, secure and transparent way to channel essential food directly to vulnerable communities.

The partnership with Agri SA demonstrates the organisations’ shared commitment to reducing food insecurity in South Africa. Agri SA’s members, through the Agri SA Disaster Relief Foundation, will provide produce that OneFarm Share will distribute through its pioneering HelloChoice digital platform.

“The food donation and rescue partnership between OneFarm Share and Agri SA makes so much sense. It combines OneFarm Share’s online coordination and food distribution capability with the reach and impact of Agri SA Disaster Relief Foundation, to make it easier for farmers to make a difference. The OneFarm Share platform provides an easy, secure and transparent way to channel essential food directly to those who need it, says Grant Jacobs CEO and Co-Founder at HelloChoice.

Since inception, OneFarm Share’s platform has distributed more than 9,500 tons of food to more than 1 million people. This year, the campaign aims to surpass 10,000 tons of food to more than 1.2 million people – more than 40 million meals.

“It is appropriate that the theme this Mandela Day is “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”, highlighting the plight of food security and climate change. Farmers understand better than anyone the immense cost pressures that South African consumers face. That is why Agri SA has partnered with OneFarm Share to ensure that we help the most vulnerable members of our society at this difficult economic time,” says Andrea Campher, Agri SA’s Risk and Disaster Manager.
