KZN Foot & Mouth DMA Movement Control Protocol

This Movement Control Protocol applies to the Disease Management Areas in Kwazulu Natal Province, as declared in Government Gazette Notice No 52318 of 17 March 2025, in terms of the Animal Disease Act, 1984 (Act No 35 of 1984), comprising the areas as specified in Annexure A of this document.
The National Director of Animal Health hereby prescribes, in terms of the Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act No.35 of 1984), control measures relating to the movement of animals and animal products INTO, WITHIN, THROUGH and OUT OF the FMD Disease Management Area, herein after referred to as the DMA.
The stipulations do not in any way reduce any of the existing movement requirements throughout the declared FMD Control Zones, Corridor disease and African Swine Fever controlled area as prescribed in the Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act No. 35 of 1984) and Veterinary Procedural Notice (VPN) for FMD Control in South Africa.
All livestock must bear the owners’ official identification mark as per the Animal Identification Act (Act No. 06 of 2002) before movement can be permitted.
