Kwanalu: Strategic Framework for Water and Sanitation

The Framework updates and sets out proposed policy direction for the planning, regulation, financing and delivery of water and sanitation services in RSA. It addresses water and sanitation services on privately owned land. It recognises the role of landowners who provide water services to employees and their families as Water Services Intermediaries, and provides for greater support, regulation and monitoring.  Also, that Water Services Authorities must ensure compliance with national technical standards and incorporate service delivery on privately owned land into municipal Water Services Development Plans and Integrated Development Plans. The proposed sector targets also include the progressive extension of water and sanitation services to persons residing on privately owned land.  Comments are now open.
