Kwanalu: PDLA
The DoA has gazetted draft regulations under the Preservation & Development of Agricultural Land Act (PDLA), 2024 (not yet in force), and is calling for public comment. The draft regulations aim to ensure that viable agricultural land is protected and optimally utilised to support long-term, sustainable food production.
Key areas covered include:
- Criteria for provincial agricultural sector plans
- Application processes and requirements for agro-ecosystem authorisations
- Roles of agricultural professionals in the authorisation process
- Activities exempt from authorisation and compliance monitoring
- Compliance inspections, including the use of technology, external specialists, and reporting requirements
- Contravention notices and appeals procedures
- Development of compliance norms and standards, and a national agro-ecological information system
