The Bill proposes amendments which could have important practical implications for livestock owners and the broader agricultural sector e.g. amendments aimed at strengthening measures to prevent, investigate and prosecute stock theft.

Amongst others, the proposed amendments deal with:

• record-keeping and regular verification of livestock;
• documentation relating to the sale, acquisition and movement of livestock;
• removal certificates and the transportation of livestock;
• inspection, search and seizure powers;
• offences and penalties relating to stock theft and associated conduct; and
• additional regulatory powers concerning livestock identification, movement and transport.
